Washington, D.C. – Wyoming Attorney General Greg Phillips will serve as a judge for the U.S. Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals after the Senate unanimously confirmed his nomination today by a vote of 88-0. U.S. Senators Mike Enzi and John Barrasso, both R-Wyo., spoke on the Senate floor in support of Phillips’ nomination, noting that Phillips is a talented, well respected attorney that will serve with distinction. Excerpts from their statements are included below.

           “I can personally attest to Mr. Phillips’ qualifications to serve as a federal judge,” said Enzi. “Greg was on the Senate Judiciary Committee when we served together in the Wyoming Legislature. Greg and his family are highly respected in their community and Wyoming is proud to call Greg one of our own.”

          “Greg Phillips will be an outstanding judge,” said Barrasso. “The breadth of his experience, his understanding of the law and the role of a judge, as well as the thoroughness with which he approaches his responsibilities, will serve him well. I have no doubt that as his career continues, he will become a successful and respected member of the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals.”

Greg Phillips’ nomination was reported out of the Senate Judiciary Committee with a unanimous voice vote on April 18. He  studied economics at the University of Wyoming and graduated with honors from the Wyoming College of Law where he was on the law review. Before becoming Wyoming’s Attorney General, he served 7 years as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Wyoming handling criminal prosecutions and appeals. He has extensive experience arguing in federal court including taking nearly 20 cases before the Tenth Circuit.
