WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Senator John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), chairman of the Senate Republican Conference, issued the following statement after voting against the Cornyn-Murphy gun legislation in the U.S. Senate.

“I voted against the gun legislation on the floor of the United States Senate today. I am committed to finding solutions that focus on our nation’s mental health crisis and make schools safer for students and teachers. These solutions must also always protect the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding Americans.

“I introduced legislation with Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) to boost mental health resources and to secure schools — the Safe Kids, Safe Schools, Safe Communities Act. We can make communities safer without jeopardizing constitutional rights.”
