CASPER, WY
- U.S. Senator John Barrasso (R-WY) issued the following statement today on the death of former Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto:

“I join President Bush in condemning this cowardly assassination. My prayers are with Benazir Bhutto's family and the people of Pakistan at this tragic time.

Despite the constant threats, Benazir Bhutto was a woman of courage; she gave everything in her attempt to win democracy for her nation.  The anguish felt in Pakistan today will be shared around the world, as terrorism attacks us all, regardless of religion, nationality or political affiliation.

Pakistan has been an ally of the United States in the Global War on Terror.   This atrocity must not weaken our resolve, rather is should serve to strengthen our determination.  A democratic Pakistan is essential in our struggle with Islamic terrorists.

The terrorists behind today’s senseless attack must be held responsible, and the imminent democratic elections in Pakistan must proceed."
