WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), chairman of the Senate Republican Conference, issued the following statement after opposing a vote to proceed to infrastructure legislation.

“Families in Wyoming want real infrastructure investment. They want it to be paid for, and they don’t want to spend more than we can afford.

“Democrats insisted on a level of new spending that we can’t afford. They have tied this bill explicitly to the multi-trillion dollar tax and spending spree they intend to ram through Congress. Raising taxes on middle class families in Wyoming to pay for a far-left agenda is reckless and wrong. I’ll fight that every step of the way.

“In addition to deficit spending, the bill begins the Biden administration’s takeover of America’s electric system. It gives the administration the power to override state decisions on electric transmission lines, pick winners and losers when it comes to power generation, and pressure states to adopt building codes banning the use of natural gas.

“The bill also spends billions on subsidizing electric cars, while continuing the unfair policy where they pay nothing for the upkeep of our roads and bridges.

"We should be investing in our infrastructure responsibly. Instead, this bill spends too much and mandates policies that are bad for Wyoming.”
