WASHINGTON D.C. – U.S. Senator John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), Senate Majority Whip, today spoke on the Senate floor about how the Senate Republican growth agenda delivers a 180-degree turn after four years of a tax-and-spend binge by the Democrats.

“This week, Senate Republicans will continue to point out the benefits of our comprehensive economic plan. Americans will see for themselves how our growth agenda delivers what they want, need, and voted for – safety and prosperity. This is a 180-degree turn from the past four years of high prices and open borders.
“The Biden administration caused the worst economic disaster since the 1970s. Democrats went on a tax-and-spend binge. They also piled job-killing regulations onto the economy, which cost $1.8 trillion. This reckless spending and regulatory rampage fueled the worst inflation in 40 years. Prices were 21 percent higher when Joe Biden left office than when he started. Energy bills climbed by 31 percent.
“Families saw their savings evaporate. Families saw their credit card debt skyrocket. Families struggled to keep up. Young families were locked out of home ownership by soaring mortgage rates. Over 10 million illegal immigrants flooded into the country. Millions of these illegal immigrants were given free food, free housing, free phones, free travel, and free healthcare.
“Americans have had enough. Americans elected Republicans to clean up the mess. We’re delivering. Under Republican leadership, America is getting back on track. Inflation is down. Grocery prices are down. Gas prices are down. Wages are up. Jobs are coming back. Consumer confidence is rising. For the first time in the history of polling, a majority of Americans say our country is heading in the right direction.
“The state of our economy is strong. Friday’s job numbers showed more new jobs were created last month than even the experts predicted. Republicans’ comprehensive economic plan will make it even stronger. Our plan cuts taxes. Our plan targets waste, fraud, abuse, and corruption. Our plan unleashes American energy to bring down prices.
“The heart of our plan is tax relief. Republicans will stop a crushing $4 trillion tax increase. This is a tax increase that every Democrat wants and has promised to vote for. That would be the biggest tax increase in American history. Additionally, we will eliminate taxes on tips, on overtime, and on Social Security. That’s a pay raise for hardworking Americans and seniors.
“The Republican plan puts more money into Americans’ wallets, pockets, and purses. Families will have more money for gas, groceries, and emergencies. Families will have more money to pay rent, to pay a mortgage, or save for their kids’ education.
“Remember, Democrats have vowed to vote for a $4 trillion tax increase. They said they’re going to fight with everything they have to stop us from passing our economic plan. How can they look seniors and waiters and bartenders and police officers and firefighters in the eye and admit they voted for the largest tax increase in American history?
“Let’s not forget why Democrats want to raise taxes. They want to pay for healthcare for illegal immigrants. They want to subsidize electric vehicles that most people don’t want, don’t need, and can’t afford.
“At the end of the day, the question is simple. Are you for stopping a $4 trillion tax increase or not? Republicans stand with American families.”
