“This is what I call the ‘Sebelius Shakedown’ and what I want to know is what is she promising those businesses that she talks to, and what is she threatening them with.”

WASHINGTON, DC –Today, U.S. Senator John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), delivered the following remarks at a press conference with Senate Republican leadership:
“The President’s health care law, I’ve been saying, it’s bad for paychecks, it’s bad for patients and it’s bad for jobs. And now with revelations this last week there’s an additional dark cloud over the health care law.
“One relates to the IRS. These are the folks that are supposed to enforce the health care law. If you go to one of the exchanges to go to get insurance the form that you actually send in goes to the IRS.
“I can’t imagine the American people are going to be delighted hearing about what misuse of power we’ve seen from the IRS and wanting to entrust them with their own health care. And, the IRS is hoping to hire up to 15,000 additional agents to enforce the President’s health care law.
“The second is that of Kathleen Sebelius, the Secretary of Health and Human Services, who has been going to private companies asking for money to then use to promote the President’s health care law.
“This is what I call the ‘Sebelius Shakedown’ and what I want to know is what is she promising those businesses that she talks to, and what is she threatening them with.
“Remember Kathleen Sebelius has been found in violation of the Hatch Act during the 2012 presidential election, now she’s shaking down companies, executives throughout the country. Why? Looking for money to cover over and cover up the train wreck that is happening with the President’s health care law.”
