Barrasso Responds to President Obama’s Speech to Congress

“Pass this jobs bill’ – and we’ll likely see more debt and more Washington waste.”

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) released the following statement in response to President Obama’s speech to a joint session of Congress regarding his economic plan:

“For over two and a half years, we’ve heard the President predict time and time again that his policies will put millions of Americans back to work.  Instead, we’ve seen our debt and unemployment increase.  Tonight, we heard big promises and few specifics.  ‘Pass this jobs bill’ – and we’ll likely see more debt and more Washington waste.

“With 9.1 percent unemployment, Washington doesn’t have time or money to waste.  Today, the Senate and Congressional Western Caucuses proposed a pro-growth plan that will help more Americans get back to work.  Our legislation will cut red tape, develop American energy and create jobs.   If the President is serious about moving forward on every good proposal, he will support our commonsense plan.

“President Obama also said that the White House has ‘identified’ hundreds of regulations to repeal.  Identification isn’t the same as action.  In fact, his Administration has only repealed one job regulation since January.  If the President really wants to cut red tape, he will have to act instead of simply review.”
