WASHINGTON, D.C.—U.S. Senator John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) cosponsored Senator Mike Braun’s (R-Ind.) bipartisan “No Budget No Pay Act.”

“If we’re going to stop this out-of-control spending, Congress must do their job and pass a responsible budget now,”  said Barrasso. “I’ve been a proud cosponsor of the ‘No Budget, No Pay’ Act for more than a decade. This important bill stops lawmakers in Washington from getting paid if a budget is not passed every year. In business, you don’t get paid for a job that you don’t do. Congress shouldn’t be any different. Washington needs to follow Wyoming’s lead and pass a responsible budget that cuts spending and provides certainty to American job creators.”

The No Budget No Pay Act states that if Members of Congress don’t fulfill their basic job requirements and pass the annual budget resolutions and appropriations bills by the start of the fiscal year (October 1), they will not receive pay until they do. The bill also prohibits retroactive pay for the period.

Barrasso has cosponsored the No Budget No Pay act every Congress since it was initially introduced in 2011.
