WASHINGTON, D.C.— Today, U.S. Senator John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) issued the following statement regarding his vote to support final passage of the conference report to accompany H.R.2810, the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

“America relies on our men and women in uniform to keep us safe. With the passage of the bipartisan National Defense Authorization Act, our troops will receive a well-deserved pay raise and will have the tools they need to continue to protect our nation and our allies. This bill also includes provisions to reimburse states for fire suppression costs, and to provide funding for important projects at F.E. Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne.

“On the Bells of Balangiga, we can thank Congresswoman Cheney for her amendment to protect the memorial. While Senate conferees weakened her amendment in conference, it was only because of her leadership that the bill retains some protection against their removal. As a delegation, we are united to protect it.”

Some Key Provisions included in NDAA:

• Authorizes the Department of Defense to reimburse states for costs resulting from fires caused by military training on state-owned military training facilities.

• Conveys land for the Quebec #1 Peacekeeper ICBM Missile Alert Facility to the Wyoming Department of State Parks and Cultural Resources.

• Authorizes $62 million in military construction to replace security forces helicopter operations facility at F.E. Warren Air Force Base.
