WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), Senate Majority Whip, today spoke on the Senate Floor to highlight how Republicans are delivering on the mandate to get America back on track.

Sen. Barrasso’s remarks as prepared:

“Seven months ago, Republicans came to the Senate with a clear mandate. Our job as the majority is to get America back on track. We made that commitment –and we’re keeping it. America is stronger. America is safer. America is more prosperous. Not since Ronald Reagan reversed the failures of Jimmy Carter have we seen such a dramatic turnaround.

“Earlier this month, Republicans passed our comprehensive legislative agenda. President Trump calls it the One Big Beautiful Bill. It is now law of the land. It delivers what voters sent Republicans here to do.

“Republicans stopped a $4 trillion tax increase, the largest in American history. Every single Democrat voted for those tax increases. Had Democrats succeeded, working families would have paid $1,700 more in taxes next year. Small businesses would have seen their tax rates soar. The families of farmers and ranchers would have paid a much higher Death Tax.

“Republicans stopped all of that. Instead, we delivered a working-class tax cut. We cut taxes on tips, on overtime, and on Social Security. No taxes on tips puts an extra $1,300 back into the pockets of waiters, barbers, and bartenders. No taxes on overtime puts an extra $1,400 back into the paychecks of nurses, firefighters, and police officers. No tax on Social Security puts more money into the pockets of seniors through a larger deduction.

“Thanks to Senator Katie Britt of Alabama, Republicans modernized tax credits for child care. It was the first update in 25 years. This helps make day care more affordable for hardworking moms and dads. Moreover, Republicans expanded child tax credit. Parents receive $2,200 each year for each child. This helps pay for rent, food, and school supplies.

“Thanks to Senator Ted Cruz of Texas, Republicans created $1,000 savings account for every newborn American. Now, an American child born today could have tens of thousands of dollars waiting for them when they turn 18. This is a down payment on the American Dream. It can be used to go to college, to buy a home, or to start a business.

“Now, let me talk about American energy. America’s future depends on abundant energy resources. Under Joe Biden, energy prices rose by 31 percent in just four years. Today, thanks to Republican leadership, America is producing again – and prospering again. We’re producing energy onshore, offshore, and in Alaska.

“My home state of Wyoming is America’s energy breadbasket. We’re drilling. We’re mining. We’re powering data centers and factories. More production at home lowers prices. It creates more jobs for our energy workers. It restores America’s energy dominance.

“Moreover, Republicans are strengthening Medicaid with reasonable work requirements. Currently, 4.8 million able-bodied adults who will not work still receive Medicaid benefits. Our law changes that. If you can work, you should work. That’s fair to everyone else. It strengthens our safety net for those who truly need it. Democrats are fearmongering about Medicaid. Let me set the record straight. Under our new law, single mothers keep their coverage. Children keep their coverage. Disabled Americans keep their coverage.

“On national security, Republicans are reversing four years of weakness and woke distractions. We are restoring Peace through Strength. Our new law includes $150 billion to rebuild our military. Our military will again be lethal, ready, and respected.

“Of course, national security starts with border security. That is why Republicans secured the border. President Trump ended Joe Biden’s disastrous open border policy. Under Joe Biden, 10 million illegal immigrants flooded across our border. 10,000 illegal crossings every day was standard. Now, illegal border crossings are at a record low. We ended the Biden policy of catch and release.

“In the last two months, the number of illegal immigrants who were released into our country is zero. That’s right. Zero. Think about what that means. Zero releases mean zero communities overwhelmed. Zero schools overcrowded.

Zero hospitals overrun by illegal immigrants. Zero new Laken Rileys. Zero new Rachel Morins. Our new law provides $46.5 billion to finish the wall at our southern border. It also invests significantly in Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

“Additionally, Republicans cut billions in wasteful Washington spending around the world. Under Joe Biden, Democrats planned to spend taxpayer money on $500,000 on electric buses in Africa, $882,000 on social media mentorship in Europe, and $6 million for ‘Net Zero Cities’ in Mexico. The list goes on. Republicans passed a rescissions bill that saved taxpayers $9 billion.

“Here’s the bottom line. These are common sense reforms. Once, they were bipartisan. In 1986, 30 Senate Democrats voted for President Reagan’s tax cuts. One of the thirty was then-Senator Joe Biden. Today, every Democrat in Congress voted to raise taxes on working Americans. Every Democrat voted for open borders and to give free healthcare to illegal immigrants. The Democrat Party today is the party of high taxes, high prices, and open borders. Democrats are more than just liberal. They are radical. And they are dangerously out of touch.

“A Wall Street Journal poll this weekend found Democrats’ favorability at a 35-year low. On critical issues like the economy, inflation, immigration, and national security, Americans trust Republicans. They’re right to do so. Republicans are lowering costs. We’re securing our borders. We’re rebuilding our military. We’re getting America back on track. We’re just getting started.

“The American comeback is real. The Republican majority is delivering. America’s best days are ahead.”
