“America is back on track. That is what I heard in every corner of Wyoming…From cutting taxes to securing the border, America today is safer, stronger, and more prosperous than we were when this year began. This is all the result of the work of President Trump and Republicans in Congress.”
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), Senate Majority Whip, today spoke on the Senate Floor about his travels across Wyoming during August, highlighting how the Republican agenda makes families and small businesses safer and more prosperous.

Sen. Barrasso’s remarks as prepared:
“I come to the Floor today after four weeks of traveling across my home state of Wyoming. I visited with families at the Wyoming State Fair in Douglas, the Dubois Firefighter BBQ, the River Festival and Shrimp Boil in Green River, and at pancake festivals all across our great state.
“One year ago, at events like this, Wyoming families told me America was headed in the wrong direction. They were stressed about paying record high prices. They were angry about the wide-open border. And they were anxious about a $4 trillion tax increase at the end of 2025. Democrats – the Party of High Prices and Open Borders – made the American people less safe and less prosperous. Americans faced a grim reality. What a difference a year makes.
“Today, America is moving in the right direction. America is back on track. That is what I heard in every corner of Wyoming. And it is what Americans are seeing across the nations. Labor Day gas prices were at their lowest in five years. Small business optimism is at its highest in five months. Half a million new jobs have been created. Real wages are going up. Inflation is staying low – and repeatedly beating economists’ expectations. Here in Washington, D.C., the city was once the capital of crime. Now, it safer and cleaner, thanks to President Trump’s common-sense policies.
“The American people were right to trust President Trump and Republicans in Congress to get America back on track. This is the beginning of the Great American Comeback. The Republicans’ ‘Working Families Tax Cuts’ law will keep historic progress going. Wyoming families could save $2,400 this year because of the tax cuts. That’s according to a new analysis by the Tax Foundation. That’s money back in your paychecks, pockets, and purses. That’s where it belongs.
“The law cuts taxes on tips. No taxes on tips puts an extra $1,300 back into the pockets of waiters, barbers, and bartenders. The law also cuts taxes on overtime. No taxes on overtime puts an extra $1,400 back into the paychecks of nurses, firefighters, and police officers. The child tax credit is higher. This saves working families $2,200 per child per year. Seniors will pay less in taxes each year because of a new, $6,000 deduction on Social Security benefits.
“The bottom line is this – Americans will keep more of what they earn. They will send less of their hard-earned money to Washington D.C. And the people of Wyoming certainly understand the reality of wasteful Washington spending.
“At the Wyoming State Fair in Douglas, I joined Wyoming families in celebrating our state’s heritage and history. This year, we honored two icons of Wyoming farming and ranching – Doug Miyamoto and Juan Reyes. Republicans’ new law supports our farmers and ranchers. The law’s disaster assistance helps families whose grazing lands are destroyed by wildfires and droughts. Its full expensing of up to $2.5 million for new equipment will help grow businesses. Its changes to the Death Tax will ease families’ burdens and worries. It will also provide certainty for the future. These policies make our farmers and ranchers more prosperous – and help feed the nation.
“Yet not a single Democrat voted for these popular policies that are making America safer and more prosperous. Not one. Every single Democrat voted instead to raise taxes by $4 trillion. That’s the largest tax increase in American history.
“So it is no surprise that Democrats are putting fear before the facts when it comes to this law. Just yesterday, Senator Schumer came here to the Senate Floor and claimed that this law does not help rural hospitals.
“Let me set the record straight. Republicans created a $50 billion rural hospital fund. I’m a doctor. I practiced medicine in Wyoming for over two decades. I was President of the state Medical Society. I am in close contact with our state’s doctors and hospitals. Since Obamacare became law, more than 100 rural hospitals have closed. Hundreds more are now at risk. The $50 billion rural hospital fund means real relief for our nation’s rural hospitals. Yet every Democrat vote against it. Democrats in this very body even introduced legislation in July to eliminate the rural hospital fund. Senator Schumer came to this very Senate Floor and bragged about it.
“At the same time, Democrats voted to continue to give free, taxpayer-funded healthcare to illegal immigrants. This compounded the disaster of four years of Joe Biden’s open border policies. President Trump took immediate action to secure the border, to end the chaos, and to protect American citizens. The message to the world is clear – our border is closed. Illegal crossings are now at record lows. For three months in a row, zero illegal immigrants were released into our country. Republicans in Congress went even further with our bill. We are finishing the wall at our southern border. We are hiring more border agents. We are investing in Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
“From cutting taxes to securing the border, America today is safer, stronger, and more prosperous than we were when this year began. This is all the result of the work of President Trump and Republicans in Congress. The people of Wyoming feel the difference – and they are not alone. People across America see that our nation is getting back on track.”
